Day 30: Final Challenge

the five-minute test · the Day 1 re-recording · fifty questions · what comes next · 45 min

Thirty days ago you could not read Wein out loud.

Today has four parts: speak for five minutes, re-record your Day 1 sentences, take the fifty-question exam, and decide what happens on day 31.

⚠️ Do the recording before you look at anything else. If you revise first you are measuring your revision, not your thirty days.

1. 🎤 The five-minute challenge

Rules

Five minutes, one takeno notes, no pausing, no restarting
No English, not one wordif you are stuck, use the phrases below
Record ityou are comparing this to Day 7, 14, 21
Mistakes do not stop youspeak through them and keep going

How to fill five minutes — follow this order when you stall

Each block is roughly 45 seconds. When you run out on one, move to the next — do not sit in silence trying to rescue a sentence.

BlockReach for
1Who you are — name, origin, where you live, how longseit + present
2Your job / studies, your ageno article with jobs
3Your family — who, where, what they dopossessives, sein/ihr
4Your day — waking to sleeping, with timesseparable verbs, um/am
5How you get around — and where things are near youmit dem/der, dative
6What you like, prefer and lovegern / lieber / am liebsten
7★ What you did last weekendthe past tense
8What you can, must and want to do this weekmodals, verb at the end
9★ Why you're learning Germana weil clause, verb last
10What you'll do next — and a question to the listenerpresent-as-future
Blocks 7 and 9 are the ones that show thirty days of work. Anyone can memorise a self-introduction. Telling a story in the past and giving a reason in a subordinate clause is the part that cannot be faked.

If you stall

2. 📊 The Day 1 re-recording

Read exactly these — the same ten from Day 1 §9 — and record them.

Listen specifically for:ei/ie (heiße, Wiedersehen) · the two ch sounds (Ich, sprechen) · w = v (Wie, Wiedersehen) · z = ts · the r that melts (Vater-style, in Wiedersehen) · and whether you now run the words together instead of reading them one at a time.

The bottom row of the speaking column is the honest one. Pronunciation scores move in jumps and plateaus; how long you can keep talking goes up in a straight line, and it is the number that predicts whether you will still be speaking German in a year.

4. ★ The last ten sentences — the whole thirty days

If you keep only ten sentences from this month, keep these. Each one carries a structure, not just words.

  1. Ich heiße Alex und ich komme aus Kanada. — the opening
  2. Ich wohne seit zwei Jahren in Berlin.seit + present
  3. Ich bin Student — ich bin fünfundzwanzig Jahre alt. — no article, sein for age
  4. Ich habe Hunger. Hast du Lust, essen zu gehen?haben-feelings + the invitation
  5. Ich fahre mit der U-Bahn zur Arbeit. — dative, twice
  6. Ich stehe um halb sieben auf. — separable verb + halb
  7. Ich kann nicht kommen, weil ich arbeiten muss. — modal + weil, verb last
  8. Was hast du am Wochenende gemacht? — the question you'll be asked most
  9. Ich bin nach Hamburg gefahren und habe meine Schwester besucht. — past, both helpers
  10. Wie bitte? Noch einmal, bitte — langsamer. — the phrase that keeps you talking

5. Day 31 — not stopping here

Thirty days gets you to A1 and the edge of A2. That is a real place: you can survive, socialise and tell a story. It is also exactly the level people lose fastest if they stop.

Minimum maintenance — ten minutes a day

3 minUpload something real to LangNote — a menu, a sign, a message
3 minOne role-play turn set. Speaking, not reading
3 minReview cards. Whatever is due, nothing more
1 minSay what you did today, out loud, in the past tense
The one-minute past-tense habit is the highest-value thing on this list. It keeps the structure you built on Day 25 alive, and it is the first thing to decay.

What to learn next, in order

Why it's next
① Adjective endings, properlyDay 27 gave you the 80% rule. The full table is the biggest single gap you have
② The genitivethe fourth case — des Mannes. Common in writing, rarer in speech
③ Konjunktiv IIwürde, könnte, hätte, wärepoliteness and hypotheticals. Könnten Sie… was a preview
④ Relative clausesder Mann, deryou already know verb-last; this reuses it
⑤ Passivewird gemachtmostly for reading

And the honest advice

Your articles will be wrong for a long time. Every learner's are. Do not let that slow your speaking down — the people who stay hesitant about der/die/das are the ones who stop talking, and the ones who stop talking are the ones who lose the language.Speak first, be right second. That has been the rule of this whole challenge and it stays the rule.

6. 📲 The last upload

Upload section 4 (the last ten sentences) and your five-minute recording → study language German.

MissionWhat to do with it
🗣 ShadowingThe ten sentences — save this pronunciation score, it is your Day 30 number
🎧 PodcastYour own five minutes, played back. Uncomfortable and the most useful listening you'll do
❓ QuizThe fifty questions
📖 VocabThe ten sentences, as your permanent core deck
🎭 Role-playOne last free conversation — no scenario, no script

The two files

Put your Day 1 recording and your Day 30 recording side by side one more time.Thirty days ago you were sounding out letters. Today you spoke for five minutes about your life, your family, your week and your reasons — in the past tense, with the verb in the right place, without stopping. That is what thirty days is worth. Keep both files.
Herzlichen Glückwunsch — du hast es geschafft.(Congratulations — you did it.)
